Current Effusive Eruption of Etna – August 2025
Overview of the current activity
In early August 2025, a new effusive eruption occurred on Mount Etna’s summit craters. A vent at the southern slope of Bocca Nuova produced a slow-moving lava flow directed southward. No significant seismic activity has been detected. Volcano Discovery+1
Context
Previously, in February, a similar eruption began at the base of Bocca Nuova, with lava rapidly descending the southwest flank to around 1,960 m and causing steam explosions upon contact with snow.Nature
